The Project was started in 1997 by WWF UK and the Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC). It became a worldwide movement helping to protect sacred landscapes from Mongolia to Mexico. In March 2012 it launched a guidebook, Sacred Land, by Martin Palmer and published by Little, Brown on how to how to read the sacred in the cities, towns and villages across Britain.
